For as long as money has been around, payments has probably been the boring part.

At best, we consumers fear the payment moment. Will the payment go through? Do I have the funds in my account? Will my card work? Will I see that spinning wheel when I pay online? Are my card details being sent off somewhere to the dark web?

 

It’s the same for Merchants. Taking payments has always been the tedious part of their selling experience – whether it’s in-store, in-venue, online or via mobile. Payments is that complex, technical, difficult but necessary piece of kit required to actually take money safely and securely from the consumer. And it always has very little to do with a Merchant's core business.

 

Now though, paying for goods and services has to be lightning fast. From our phones, via our browser, tapping our cards on terminals. We demand unfussy, quick, effortless payments. And post pandemic, safe payments doesn't just mean secure payments. Now, paying for things has to be beyond comfortable – it has to be dazzling – because it's the most important moment in the entire experience.
