This month’s edition of Planet Intelligence shows there’s good news for both retailers and hoteliers across Europe.
Payments data shows that European retailers have seen a return of international shoppers from Asian counties, most notably from China, which has reappeared among the top five spending nations for the first time in seven months.
This is welcome news for retailers who have seen high numbers of US tourists visiting Europe this year, along with increasing numbers from the GCC nations. With Asian customers now returning, this bodes well for 2023.
Hotel payments continued to recover with France and Italy returning a strong performance exceeded October 2019 levels. The standouts this year are Norway and Switzerland which have recovered to +11% and +5% year-to-date compared to 2019’s pre-pandemic levels.
