International payments provider, Planet, is launching digital Tax Free services in Turkey, following the grant of a licence by the Turkish Ministry of Finance. Planet’s Tax Free services are designed to improve the tax refund experience for both shoppers and merchants, providing an experience that is faster and frictionless for all users.
Planet’s tax refund system will be available to shoppers, digitising purchases at the point of sale and enabling tourists visiting Turkey to claim refunds on a percentage of the VAT paid on purchases during their visit. Shoppers can ‘bundle’ their purchases across participating merchants, ensuring details only need to be provided once for a tax refund.
With Turkey’s advanced digital retail and customs infrastructure already in place, Planet’s offerings will enhance efficiency, footfall and ultimately sales for our partners. This will enable them to meet and exceed international shoppers’ evolving expectations, to provide an unrivalled customer experience and increase their share of international spend.
Turkey is one of the biggest tourism markets across the globe, and is rapidly expanding with nearly 40 million foreign tourists visiting in 2018, a year-on-year increase of more than 21 percent according to figures from the Turkish Ministry of Tourism[1]. As such, Turkey has become a key retail market with international shoppers spending in 2018 more than $3.5 billion USD[2].
