Planet expands presence at Dubai International (DXB) to improve customer experience during the Tax Free process



  • International shoppers departing from DXB will be able to have a quicker, more efficient tax refund process at the airport taking less than one minute.

International payments service provider, Planet, in collaboration with the Federal Tax Authority, has announced an expansion at Dubai International (DXB), the busiest airport for international traffic in the world with more than 89 million passengers per year[1]. This will see the number of self-service kiosks for international shoppers to claim their tax refunds more than double to 20.

 

The additional self-service kiosks, based at DXB’s Terminal 3, enable international shoppers to validate their own Tax Free purchases. The kiosks, also available at Terminal 1, will ensure shorter queuing times, and an improved customer experience with faster tax refunds than ever before, taking on average one minute to validate a purchase.

 

As part of the 100% digital Tax Free solution launched in November 2018, over 10,000 merchants throughout Dubai have been onboarded to date, and, with 16 million tourists[2] coming to Dubai each year, there is a significant opportunity for Tax Free shopping to continue to grow in the UAE.

 

The expansion was commemorated in an official inauguration ceremony at Terminal 3 on October 6th 2019, with Ahmed Noor, Registration and Return Director, Federal Tax Authority, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports and Eugene Barry, Dubai Airports’ EVP of Commercial as special guests.

 

“At DXB we welcome more than 7 million customers per month through our doors, many of whom come to Dubai to take advantage of the world-class shopping facilities. The expansion of Planet’s services in Terminal 1 and 3 will support us in our ongoing commitment to offer customers of DXB an experience that meets their needs at every level,” said Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.

Planet’s expanded presence at DXB follows the implementation of VAT by the Federal Tax Authority in January 2018, and the introduction of Tax Free shopping in November 2018.
