Whilst arrivals of Chinese tourists saw a fall in numbers in February, the timing of the new year period saw sales to these tourists increase by 35%, following the 29% gains in January. Whilst the major European destinations, with the exception of Germany, all saw gains of 40%+, the remaining destinations collectively saw a 70% increase in sales, with triple-digit gains seen across a number of these destinations, including Austria, Iceland and Greece.
Furthermore, sales to tourists from Hong Kong saw growth of 88% in February, following the 94% increase seen in January, with France and the UK being the primary beneficiaries with growth of 147% and 72%, respectively. These gains saw these tourists elevated to 3rd position in the rankings of tourist nationalities, surpassing sales to American tourists.
Sales to Taiwanese tourists saw growth of 53% in the month, representing the third consecutive month of 50%+ gains to these tourists. Arrivals from China and Hong Kong are both predicted to see gains of 7% over the next 3 months, with 17% predicted for Taiwanese arrivals.
